For years, we have seen a real desire to create brands with a regional connotation, with successes but also some failures. Alongside these approaches, a national, poorly known ecolabel exists, while some international labels continue to be a reference for buyers (but not necessarily known by consumers). In recent years, these regional brands have been evolving by increasingly including notions of sustainability. Are these approaches complementary to national approaches or, on the contrary, do they fill a gap and meet the growing consumer demand for local products? How does the EGalim Law align with these approaches?

The development of blue industries is based on the characterization and promotion of marine resources, one of the pillars of the Breton blue economy. Such diversification opens up to sectors as diverse as agriculture, agri-food, health, cosmetics, fine chemistry, biomaterials, etc. The emergence of new activities is the work of men and women entrepreneurs, innovators, who will tell their success story, from the original concept to the contribution of biotechnologies and the development of skills.

In 2019, the European Commission produced a Directive on reducing the environmental impact of plastic products and in 2020, France enacted a law against waste and promoting the circular economy, which enshrines the principle of Extended Producer Responsibility, among other things for fishing gear containing plastic, with effect from 1st January 2025. Solutions to limit plastic pollution at sea from fishing gear are varied and there is no shortage of innovative projects. The Blue Day “Objective Zero Plastic” will explore these different avenues put in place by the fishing industry, usually in collaborative projects.

Pollutant emission reduction targets require new energy models to be defined. Whether it energy efficiency, with in particular the AMARREE program in fishing, or new energy mixes with the key role of hydrogen, hybridization and wind propulsion, the ship-buiding sector is facing a dual challenge of accelerating the deployment of technologies on a wide scale and integrating industrial offers boosted in particular by the BPN clusters When user needs meet solutions, the entire industry works in a ship-energy-port value chain, the approach of the T2EM Coalition.

The Regulation (EU) 2021/1139 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 7 July 2021 establishing the European Maritime Affairs, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMAF) for the period 2021-2027 was published on 13 July in the OJEU. “EMAF provides financial support for the development of innovative projects that ensure the sustainable exploitation of aquatic and maritime resources, thus contributing to the objectives of the Green Pact for Europe.” In France, where are we in the development of the operational programme? How is it being implemented at regional level? In addition to State and local authority aid, this workshop, in the form of three presentations, will present the various financial mechanisms and tools for supporting companies and projects in the sector.
